Looks like Sega have dropped the ball. The following document was found on Sega’s FTP. It reveals a lot of interesting details including information about Sony’s intended direction with PS2 backwards compatibility on the PS3, potential Dreamcast games on PSN, a possible ‘Sonic Anniversary’ collection and more!
From the document, we can see Sony intends for all PS2 titles to become available via a PS2 emulator on the PSN, meaning they get to charge people all over again for the same titles. Furthermore, it seems Sega is intending to provide Sony with a possible batch of Dreamcast titles through the PSN (Sonic Adventure was recently rated, indicating a re-release) that will be a timed exclusive, presumably they would then be released on the XBox 360.
Sega is also possibly entering deals with Sony regarding exclusive DLC for its’ upcoming games, especially ‘Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing’ oddly mentioning Fable and Rare (who is still owned by Microsoft) as potential franchises to draw characters from. The Yakuza games could come to PSN via a “Special Japanese Import” section, thus confirming earlier rumours in the week regarding the series coming west.
Other interesting tidbits include mention of a Bayonetta Collector’s Edition that will include a figurine and a possible ‘Best of Sonic’ to celebrate Sonic’s upcoming 20th anniversary with all of the “Old” Sonic games for $99. For such a high price to be acceptable I’d want to them include every game from Sonic 1 up to Sonic Adventure 2, which is roughly just over 40 titles (including Gameboy Advance titles) but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. - kokugame
